2024-2025 WordMasters Challenge Meet #2 Results

The results of the second meet of the 38th annual WordMasters Challenge™ are in!  Congratulations to all the teams that placed among the Top Ten in their division, as well as the students who earned a perfect score of 20! Please see the charts below for more details, or go to the View Reports page on your dashboard and select Meet #2 from the dropdown box.

As always, please keep in mind that scores in the WordMasters Challenge™ do not reflect typical classroom results; in many divisions, less than 5% of participants score 18 or above.  Remember that everyone's goal should be individual and team improvement over time. The most critical step in the WordMasters Challenge™ process is reviewing the tests and discussing the logic behind the analogies. Don't skip this important activity!

In the BLUE DIVISION, only one team turned in a perfect score of 200 -- congratulations to the 8B team representing Lincoln Hall in Lincolnwood, IL! The sixth and seventh grade Challenges proved to be especially difficult, with only 4 sixth graders and 3 seventh graders posting perfect scores.  The median team scores throughout the Blue Division were slightly lower than usual, with the exception of the eighth grade median score of 158 points.  We also want to acknowledge a number of schools who placed teams among the Top Ten in three or more grades: Ketterlinus Elementary (St. Augustine, FL), Prairie Vista Elementary (Granger, IN), Lincoln Junior High School (Lincolnwood, IL), Highland Middle School (Libertyville, IL), and Ridgefield Academy (Ridgefield, CT).

In the GOLD DIVISION of the WordMasters Challenge™, three teams posted perfect scores of 200: the 4G team from Nysmith School in Herndon, VA; the 7G team from Eastern Middle School in Riverside, CT; and the 8G team from Miller Middle School in San Jose, CA -- great job! The Team Leaders from Spartanburg School District 7 in South Carolina run a very successful program year in and year out, with teams placing in this meet's Top Ten in every grade of the Gold Division. The third grade Challenge proved especially tough -- no perfect scores and only 21 scores of 19 or 18 submitted.  On the other hand, median team scores for both 7G (163 points) and 8G (168 points) reflect very strong performances by students throughout the country.

Team Leaders, if you had one or more teams place among the Top Ten in its division and/or any of your students earned a perfect score, we will be sending you a DRAFT press release by March 14th. Since we email the press releases as Word documents, you may edit and distribute the press release at your discretion.  If you would like to create your own press release, click here for a downloadable template.

Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, which are the best tools for assessing your own students' achievements.  As always, students scoring 18 or better should be extremely proud of their achievement.

As a reminder, Meet #3 word lists have been posted and the Challenge Tests will be posted on Friday, March 28th.  We understand that scheduling at this time of year can be tricky with Spring Breaks and standardized testing, so please plan ahead to make sure your WordMasters testing is completed by April 18th and your scores are submitted by April 25th.  We will immediately lock the database on April 26th in order to get Meet #3 and Year-End results out the following week.  You can expect to receive your packet of medals and certificates (one medal and ten certificates per team) by early April and can order additional materials at any time through our online store.
